High Priestess At mine Altars the youth of Lacedaemon in Sparta made due sacrifice. Whenever ye have need of anything, once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full, ye shall assemble in some secret place and adore the spirit of Me who am Queen of all Witcheries and magics. There ye shall assemble, ye who are fain to learn all sorcery, yet have not won its deepest secrets. To these will I teach things that are yet unknown. And ye shall be free from slavery, and as a sign that ye be really free, ye shall be naked in your rites, both men and women, and ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music, and love, all in my praise. There is a Secret Door that I have made to establish the way to taste even on earth the elixir of immortality. Say, 'Let ecstasy be mine, and joy on earth even to me, To Me,' For I am a gracious Goddess. I give unimaginable joys on earth, certainty, not faith, while in life And upon death, peace unutterable, rest, and ecstasy, nor do I demand aught in...
ATLAS -Atlas is one of the Titans, Gods of pre-classical Greece. A God of the sky, Atlas' consort is the Goddess Pleione, Whose daughters are the Pleiades. Atlas was associated with the West, and the Atlantic ocean is named for Him, as is Mt. Atlas. Most of Atlas' mythology is lost with the other Titans, but enough survives to draw some conclusions. Atlas is a God of cosmic order, Who separated Earth from Sky, and bore the Sky upon His shoulders -an act of self-sacrifice which enabled the Universe to assume its present form. He was a Patron of law and government, and a culture hero. According to Plato, Atlas was the founder of the Kingdom of Atlantis, creator of its culture and progenerator of its royal house. Atlas was the father of the Hesperides, the three Goddesses Who guarded the apples of immortality at the far western edge of the world.
Medea addresses Jason Pay attention now, so that I can devise help for you. When you come and my father gives you the destructive teeth from the jaws of the snake to sow, wait then for the precise midpoint of the night. Bathe in the streams of the unwearied river, then alone, apart from the others, and in dark clothing, dig a round pit. Jugulate a female sheep over it, and sacrifice it whole. Heap up a fire at the pit. Then appease Hecate, the only child of Perses, making libations of the hive-produce of bees from a cup. Then, whenever you have carefully propitiated the goddess, retreat back from the fire. Let not the noise of feet cause you to turn back, nor the barking of dogs, lest you should vitiate the rites and prevent yourself from returning to your companions in good condition. At dawn make a solution of the drug, strip off, and smear it over your body like oil. There will be boundless might in you and great strength. You will think yourself equal to the immortal gods...
Called necromancy nekuomanteia in Greek. Whether it is called hydromancy or necromancy, it is the technique in which the dead appear to give prophecies. They themselves can look to the crafts by which these things are achieved. For I do not wish to assert that these crafts used to be prohibited by law in the actual cities of the various peoples and punished by the severest of laws even before the arrival of our Savior. I repeat, I do not wish to say this, for such things may well have been allowed then. But at any rate it was by these crafts that Numa Pompilius learned those sacred rites, the details of which he published, while concealing their significance, so much did he himself fear what he had learned. When books explaining their significance were brought to light, the senate burned them. So why, I ask, does Varro give some other interpretations of the significance of those sacred rites, interpretations making appeal to nature If this had been the significance of those books, the...
The name Isis is the Greek word for the Egyptian hieroglyphic for throne. She was the sister and wife of the god Osiris. A mortal magician, Isis acquired immortality by tricking the sun god, Ra, into revealing his secret name. She obtained some of his sPITTLE, made a snake from it and left the snake in his path. Ra was bitten and in great agony. She offered to relieve the pain if he would tell her his secret name, and he relented.
This PASSAGE SUMMARIZES PYTHAGORAS'S extraordinary abilities Lucian could apply the term sorcery to them (goeteia Bion Prasis 2). Among these abilities bilocation is of particular interest see 5, where, however, the biloca-tion is said to have taken place between Metapontum and Tauromenium. The neo-Pythagorean Apollonius of Tyana similarly manifested himself simultaneously at Ephesus and Thurii (58). Pherecydes of Syros, whose supposed floruit was the mid-sixth century B.C., was a traveling miracle-worker. He speculated on the origins of the cosmos and was a proponent of the immortality of the soul. He is said to have been the first writer of Greek prose. For snake-blasting see 49, with commentary.
Pythagoras the Samian was the first of the Greeks to dare claim that his body would not die, but that his soul would fly up and go off, immortal and unaging. And indeed he said that it had existed before coming into him. People believed this assertion, and that he had been on the earth before in another body. He had been Euphorbus the Trojan at that time. This was why they believed him. He came to the temple of Athena, where there were many dedications of all sorts. Among them was a shield of Phrygian shape, faded with age. He said that he recognized the shield and that the man that had killed him in battle in Ilium at that time had taken it from him. The locals were amazed. They took the dedication down and on it was the legend Menelaus dedicates this to Pallas Athene, having taken it from Euphorbus. If you want, I'll relate another story too for you. The body of a man of Proconnesus would lie there breathing, albeit indis
In LESSON I you are introduced to the concept of Higher Self. This is the part of you that lies above your conscious mind. It has access to knowledge and abilities that your conscious self does not, and it is not troubled by the fears and anxieties of the material world. Higher Self is an aspect of your soul, which is immortal and experiences many lifetimes. Higher Self is not a separate part of yourself, but rather a different level. The Higher Self is the part of you that becomes an ANCESTOR or a SPIRIT GUIDE after death, and it has that same ability now. It has knowledge and ability far beyond the conscious self, and it works always for the good -that is it's nature and it cannot do otherwise, not because it is prevented from doing so but simply because it would never occur to the Higher Self to do ill.
They do not believe that they die, but that after death they go to join the demon Salmoxis. Some of them call this same power Belei'zis. Every five years they choose one from among themselves by lot and send him as a messenger to Salmoxis, giving him instructions as to what they need on each occasion. They send him to Salmoxis in the following way. Some of them are organized to hold up three spears. Others take hold of the man being sent to Salmoxis by his hands and feet, swing him round and throw him up into the air and onto the points of the spears. If he dies from being impaled, the god is held to be propitious to them. But if he does not die, they blame the messenger himself and say he is a worthless man, and then they proceed to send another messenger. The instructions are given to him while he is still alive. These same Thra-cians shoot arrows up toward heaven at thunder and lightening and threaten their god. They believe there to be no god other...
A different sort of current in American witchcraft arose in the late 1960s, and derived from the simple fact that the figure of the witch is one of the very few images of independent female power which Western civilization has offered to modernity. As such it had to be exploited by feminism, and was from 1968, when an organization called WITCH (Women's International Conspiracy From Hell) was formed in New York, with a manifesto which stated that witchcraft had been the religion of all Europe before Christianity and of European peasants for centuries after. Its persecution m the early modern period had therefore been the suppression of an alternative culture by the ruling elite, but also a war against femimsm, for the religion had been served by the most courageous, aggressive, independent and sexually liberated women m the populace. Nine million of these had been put to death. To gain freedom, modern women needed, therefore, to become witches again, and could be so simply 'by being...
Then the Jews began to murmur, as Protestants and unbelievers murmur still. But Jesus said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. Amen, Amen. I say unto you, He that believeth in Me hath everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that if any man eat it he may not die. I am the living bread. If any man eat of this bread he shall live forever and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. This is the bread that came down from heaven. He that eateth this bread shall live forever. It was impossible to speak more clearly. And yet many who heard Him were still incredulous. 'This saying is hard they cried who can believe it And they went away from Jesus just as Protestants go away from Him now, since they also refuse to believe in the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharistic bread, and have allowed themselves to be separated from Him by Luther and Calvin, and...
(b) They taught the doctrine of the immortality of the soul. This is not necessarily implied in the doctrine of metempsychosis, which may argue the perpetual transmission of the soul, but not of the personal identity. The doctrine of the soul's immortality implies the immortality of the personal identity. 2 Diodorus Siculus, writing some fifty years after Caesar (De Bella Gallica), confirms this when he writes 'Among the Celts the doctrine of Pythagoras prevails, according to which the souls of men are immortal, and, after a fixed term, recommence to live, taking upon themselves a new body.' 3. Both postulate the immortality of the soul.
KWAN YIN also KWANNON Goddess of mercy and compassion. A lady dressed in white seated on a lotus and holding an infant. Murdered by her father, she recited the holy books when she arrived in Hell, and the ruler of the underworld could not make the dead souls suffer. The disgruntled god sent her back to the world of the living, where Kwan Yin attained great spiritual insight and was rewarded with immortality by the Buddha. A popular goddess, Kwan Yin's temple at the Mount of the Wondrous Peak was ever filled with a throng of pilgrims shaking rattles and setting off firecrackers to get her attention. According to old Pagan tradition, a bonfire that blazes on a Beltane sabbat must be made from nine different kinds of wood, and three pieces of each kind must be used. The following nine types of wood are ideal for use in a sacred Beltane fire. Their traditional meanings are included Birch symbolizes the Goddess or female principle. Oak symbolizes the Horned God or male principle. Rowan symbolizes life. Willow symbolizes death. Hawthorn symbolizes purification. Hazel symbolizes wisdom. Apple symbolizes love. Vine symbolizes joy. Fir symbolizes immortality and rebirth.
In formal magick, the four elements are seen as providing natural energies for transforming wishes into reality. Together they combine to form the fifth element - Ether, or Akasha - that represents pure Spirit, or perfection. Medieval alchemists attempted to create this elusive substance, called the philosopher's stone. It was said to turn base metal into gold and, as an elixir according to the Eastern tradition, to cure all ills and offer immortality.
Other apple superstitions are as follows Eating an apple a day is said to keep the doctor away. Wassailing apple trees on Twelfth Night keeps all manners of evil spirits at bay. Cutting down an apple orchard is said by some to bring bad luck, and many Pagan folks in Norway once believed that by eating apples they could attain immortality through wisdom. According to an issue of Notes and Queries from the year 1862, a good apple year is a great year for twins.

One God supreme the universe does sway With rev'rence his omnipotence obey And know, that all we possibly can name, From heav'n itself originally came Let no mean thoughts of dissolution fright, Or damp you spirits with the dews of night. The soul's immortal and can never die For frail existence no vain efforts make, For fear to lose what he wants power to take. Another world is ready to receive Immortal souls, that earthly bodies leave To dust the perishable parts return, But at the grave eternal spirits spurn. And if in virtue's path they trod below, In heav'nly mansions 'tis their fate to glow But if by vice enslav'd, their doom's to roam Without a heav'nly, or an earthly home.
Death was not then, nor was there aught immortal no sign was there, the day's and night's divider. The Self, the great unborn, the undecaying, the undying, the immortal, the fearless, is, in very truth, Brahman. He who knows Brahman is without fear. He who knows Brahman becomes Brahman
Though seemingly separated from the Goddess, each of these souls remains always attached to Her, always part of Her -for it is through them, as part of them, that Goddess entered into Her own physical creation, the God. We are one with the Goddess, and our experiences are Her experience. We are eternal and immortal as souls, never cut off from Goddess, or Spirit, only differentiated. All of the powers and abilities of Goddess are within us, and at our command, if we
17th Saint Patrick's Day is observed each year on this day. It is said that Saint Patrick is actually an assimilation of the Pagan Celtic deity Trefuilngid Tre-eochair, whose sacred plant, the shamrock, bore all edible fruits including the apples of immortality. This day marks the rebirth of the Green Man (a deity who embodies the vitality of all plant life). In olden times, an annual festival for the greening of Mother Earth was celebrated on this day in Europe. The Celtic tree month of Ash (Nuin) ends.
The Druids' belief in the immortality of the soul and life after death have been equated with Pythagoras' belief in metempsychosis. The dead were cremated with all their possessions. Sometimes relatives committed suicide by jumping into the fire and holding the corpses so as to be with them in the next world. The Celts wrote letters to the dead and advanced loans that would be repayable after death. Julius Caesar said that this belief in immortality sustained the legendary Celtic courage in battle.
By most accounts, the Druids were the keepers of traditional wisdom who were concerned with moral philosophy, natural phenomena and theology. They included both men and women, for women had a place of importance in Celtic society. The Druids influenced both the sacred and secular lives of the Celts. They conducted religious ceremonies, served as mediators between the people and gods, exercised influence over the moral, ethical and spiritual fabric of Celtic society through their teachings and divination and made political and judicial decisions. Their teachings included moral philosophy, ethics, astronomy, the law of nature, the power of the gods and the concept of immortality.
She was all-powerful, even over the king, who had to rule with truth and justice to attain eternal life. After death, a person's heart was weighed on the scales of justice against the feather from her headdress to see if it was free from sin. She can be invoked for all rituals of justice, uncovering secrets, truth and trustworthiness.
The elementals have body, soul and an immortal, divine Spirit, just as the human beings have. In this book I only occupy myself with the superior elementals, even though there exist millions of elementals from inferior kingdoms. We leave such ones for the degenerated pseudo-spiritualists.
Menstrual blood is particularly potent and is sacred to the GODDEss. Menstrual flow is linked to the phases of the MOON. The blood of the Goddess, also called wine, milk, mead and wise blood, appears universally in mythologies it is drunk for wisdom, fertility, regeneration and immortality. The menstrual blood of the Goddess is valued as a healing charm. The blood of Iris, symbolized in an ambrosia drink, conferred divinity on pharaohs. According to Taoism, red yin juice, as menstrual blood was called, confers long life or immortality. A pagan custom that has survived Christianity is the carrying of seeds to the field in a cloth stained with menstrual blood. In some shamanic cultures, menstrual periods are said to be accompanied by prophetic dreams that guide the shamaness-to-be to her path of power.
They decided after much argument that as the Church didn't much mind their being heathens they would turn Protestant.' I can very well imagine that perhaps in King John's time, when all England was under interdict - when, as the immortal Smith Minor said, 'the Pope made a law that no one might be born, get married or die, for the space of ten years' - then many moderately good Christians, deprived of religious consolation, might easily have turned to the rival religion. After all, the witches' paradise is very attractive to the ordinary man.
What I just said, namely that the soul takes possession of foreknowledge on leaving the body ' 'Yes,' I said. 'Therefore,' he said, 'when it leaves the body, it immediately foresees that there will be a judgment, and that everybody will pay the penalty for the sins he has committed here. This is the reason they decline to take revenge upon their killers, because they themselves are still enduring tortures for the sins which they had committed here, and they are aware that heavier punishments await their killers in their judgment. But above and beyond all this, they are not allowed to go out or to do anything by the angels set over them.' I replied, 'If the angels don't allow them to come here or do what they want, how can the souls obey the mage evocating them ' 'They do not give special permission to those souls that are willing to come, but when the presiding angels are constrained by their superior, they have an excuse in the compulsion exerted upon them by us who conjure them, so...
Gabriel is the Archangel of the West, and the spiritual aspect of Water. He is destined to sound the last trumpet. Gabriel, like Water, symbolizes fertility in all its forms. His role is that of an initiator, and he is pictured holding the Grail as he emerges from the sea of immortality in the West.
