Garden of Fairy Enchantments

To create a magickal garden for the fairy folk to call home, or to attract them to an existing garden, be sure to plant some flowers that are fairy favorites. These include butterfly bush, carnations (particularly red ones), clover, coreopsis, cosmos, cowslips, daisies, foxglove, hollyhock, hyssop, lavender, lobelia, pansies, petunias, primroses (particularly blue and red ones), roses (all types), shamrock, thyme, vervain, yarrow, and zinnias.

Fairies are said to dance in rings around certain trees when a full moon illuminates the night sky. Some fairies also like to make their homes within or underneath trees. The following trees are fairy favorites, and planting one or more in or near your garden is sure to attract the wee folk: alder, apple, ash, aspen, blackthorn, bramble, broom, elder, hawthorn, holly, juniper, lilac, oak, osier, pine, and silver birch.

gorse, or rosemary, it would be advisable to remove these plants (or transplant them to another location) if you wish to make your garden inviting to fairies. According to herbal lore, fairies are greatly repulsed by the sight and smell of these particular plants and will not venture in or near any garden in which they grow.

Fairies are fond of the sight and sound of bubbling water, and it is for this reason that they can often be glimpsed frolicking merrily near fountains and brooks. A garden containing a fountain of any size or style, a birdbath, or a fishpond is most appealing to fairies. Straw is also said to be effective in attracting fairies, as are the enchanting melodies conjured by windchimes caressed by a gentle breeze. Fairy statues or garden

gnomes situated among the flowers and trees also send out inviting vibrations to the fairies and let them know that their presence is welcome in your garden.
